Microsoft just released a new ad in which a young woman is shopping around for a sub-$1000 17″ notebook. First she goes to the Apple Store and walks right out, eventually quipping that she’s ‘not cool enough for a mac’. She then goes to Best Buy where she finds looks at various laptops, eventually purchasing an HP for $699.
…It’s an HP. Microsoft makes software. They just spent a ton of money advertising for HP.
Say I am a successful coffee company. Would it make sense if I released an ad of someone shopping for a coffee maker and they realize they cant afford a really nice Williams-Sonoma Coffee Maker, so they go to Target and buy a basic Mr. Coffee machine? Especially if I don’t even MAKE coffee machines?
